Competitive season in full swing
The competitive season on PEI is in full swing. Last week, our own Kim Dolan, along with Rebecca Jean MacDonald, Sinead Dolan, Nancy Cameron, and Michala Robison won the PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts and will represent PEI in the national Scotties in Red Deer, Alberta. They defeated Meaghan Hughes (Stefanie Clark, Jackie Reid, Tricia Affleck) in the final. Sarah Fullerton’s team (with Hillary Thompson, Sara MacRae, and Michelle McQuaid) put up a very strong showing in the tournament, bowing out to Dolan in the semi-final. We wish Sarah’s team the best of luck as they travel to Napanee, Ontario, as PEI’s junior women’s representatives.
Also last week, Shirley Berry’s team, which also includes Sandy Hope, Arleen Harris, and Evelyn Rogerson, won the PEI Masters women’s championship. The Silver Fox’s Mel Bernard took the men’s title with his team of Ted MacFadyen, Lou Nowlan, and Earle Proude.
Today, the Men’s Tankard starts at the Cornwall Curling Club. Nine of the twelve teams competing curl out of our club. Draws are scheduled at 1:30 and 6:30 pm today through Monday. Friday and Saturday will feature a 9:00 am draw in addition to the 1:30 and 6:30 games. Admission in Cornwall is only $2.00 per draw, or $20 for the full event. We encourage our members to head over to support our teams, and to check out the newly renovated clubhouse in Cornwall.

League changes due to Provincial Scotties
The Charlottetown Curling Club has the honour of hosting this year’s provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts, at which PEI’s representative for the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be decided. As a result of recent changes to the schedule for the Scotties, there will be some changes to our regular league schedules for this week.
All Thursday leagues scheduled to run on January 19 will run as scheduled. This includes the junior program, the Getting Started for Adults league, and the curl for steaks open sign-up league.
The Monday junior program and Monday night Anything Goes league will be cancelled on January 23. Games originally scheduled for January 23 will be added to the end of the schedule. The remainder of the schedule is unchanged.

Mark’s Work Wearhouse Cashspiel Starts Friday
The annual Mark’s Work Wearhouse cashspiel starts this Friday at the Charlottetown Curling Club with a draw at 6:00 pm, and continues Saturday with draws at 10:00, 1:30, and 5:00. Sunday will feature the men’s semifinals at 10:00 alongside the women’s final, while the men’s final is scheduled for 1:00 on Sunday.
This bonspiel is traditionally the final warmup before the provincial Scotties and Tankard playdowns, and so features a strong field of provincial championship contenders. The women’s field includes four of the 6 teams set to play in next week’s PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts, while the men’s field features perennial Tankard contenders Rod MacDonald, Robert Campbell, and John Likely, along with teams skipped by Mike Gaudet and Jamie Newson, the mate and alternate from last year’s PEI champions.
The complete weekend draw is available here. Feel free to drop by the club any time over the weekend and watch some great curling.
