Charlottetown Curling Club

This year’s schedules for the Molson Superleague and the Coors Light Competitive League (Wednesday nights) have been posted to the website under the Leagues/Sched menu option.  We’ll post schedules for the remaining leagues as they become available.

Due to the popularity of our Monday Night Anything Goes league we have added another night!  You can now play with any combination of friends, coworkers or family on Thursday nights.  As on Mondays, any number of men or women may curl on a team.  This league also has two payment options.  As a member of the club you may purchase the league for the entire year or you may buy in 6-weeks at a time, making this the ideal league for those who enjoy winter travel.  Contact the club for details.

The new curling season gets under way this week at the Curling Club.

Goldline Pro Shop and Bar open October 11.

Free K Rock Curling Clinics October 11-14.  Juniors 4-6pm, Adults 6-8pm nightly.

Leagues begin week of October 16.

Kitchen opens October 17.

Moosehead Trivia begins October 22 and meets every Saturday at 3pm.

New this year we are offering rewards for new members and offering an incentive for members who recruit new members.  New members receive a $50 voucher to spend at our Pro Shop, bar or kitchen.  A new member is one who was not a member last year.  Members who recruit a new member will receive a $25 voucher.  You may recruit as many new members as you wish but each new member may only be recruited by one person.  Details are available at the club.

There will be a meeting for all those wishing to participate in the Molson Superleague on Thursday September 29 at 8:00pm.  There are some changes to the league this year including:

1.  All Superleague participants require a Premium membership which includes unlimited curling and practice, locker rental, and priority practice times daily from 10am to 1pm.

2.  To help teams secure sponsors we will be offering in-ice ads for your sponsor’s logo.  If you wish to take advantage of this offer please forward your preferred logo to the club before October 5th.

There has been a significant change to our membership structure.  Starting this year members will purchase a base membership and then pay a league fee for each league they participate in.  Every effort was made to keep prices roughly comparable with dues from last year, but you will notice some differences.  The main purpose of this restructuring was to offer more economical options for new curlers and those wishing to curl on more than one night.  All members are also now entitled to practice.  See all the details in or Membership section.

Most of our leagues will remain the same as last season with the addition of our new six-week leagues on Thursdays at 8:00, offering members the opportunity to pay for sign up and curl for any or all of the four 6-week draws, each at a low price.  See all the details in our Leagues section.

You can sign up for all of our leagues during Registration and Open House Night, Thursday September 29th from 5-9pm here at the club.  There will also be a Fall Member’s Meeting on this night at 6:00.

Registration for our Junior Programs including Little Rocks will be held on Tuesday September 27 and Thursday September 29 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Please bring your child’s health card and emergency contact information.

There will be a memorial golf tournament held September 10 in honour of our late bartender and friend Donnie Callbeck. 9 holes at the Belvedere Golf Club will be followed by prizes and drinks at the Curling Club. Entry is $50 per person, and those interested should contact Reg Trainor at 892-3800 or 940-0988. Even if you can’t golf, come out and raise your glass in memory of Donnie. Golf starts at 1:00 and the club opens at 4:00.

There will be a meeting of the general membership on Tuesday September 20th at 6:00 pm at the curling club.  The meeting will review the 2011-12 curling program, budget, and bylaws.  Two motions to change the bylaws will be voted on at this meeting.  They are as follows:

1.  Whereas the elected term for a Board Director is two years, be it moved that the Bylaws of the Charlottetown Curling Club (CCC) be amended, changing the terms of both President and Vice President from one to two years effective immediately.  The Board will still assume the power to elect a new Vice President should the current one have to assume the Presidency.

2.  Be it moved that the Bylaws of the CCC be amended to give the Past President voting rights for tabled motions.
